Tenuta Monteti: Interpreting the Maremma of Capalbio, Parcel by Parcel

A family estate in the southern Tuscan Maremma, built on a parcel-based method, sustainability and a deep reading of the Capalbio territory.

Capalbio, June 2026 – Tenuta Monteti  (link) is a wine estate in the southern Tuscan Maremma, near Capalbio. Founded in 1998 from the pioneering project of Gemma Bracco e Paolo Baratta, supported from the very beginning by consultant oenologist Carlo Ferrini, it is today run by the founders‘ daughter Eva Baratta and her husband Javier Pedrazzini. The estate covers 142 hectares, in a small valley sheltered by the Monteti hill and open to the sea breeze. Here, the 30 hectares of vineyard are worked as “30 times one hectare”: every parcel is monitored, harvested, vinified and aged separately, as part of an ongoing process of research shaped by precision, sustainability and a distinctive sense of place.

Tenuta Monteti – “We don’t like the excess of roundness”

I sometimes find myself struggling with the ripeness and the lack of acidity in some of the wines of the Tuscan coast. Although technically well made, their warmth, elevated alcohol content, low acidity, and use of ‚international‘ grapes such as Bordeaux blends can sometimes make them seem interchangeable. Additionally, global warming hasn’t been favorable for these wines. Usually, I am more drawn towards wines that show a sense of place, a vision and have a soul and freshness. Tenuta Monteti (Link) is a great example of a winery that embodies all these virtues, while avoiding stepping into the trap of being over-complicated or too intellectual.
