Calamandrana, March 2025 – Michele Chiarlo (link) is launching the Barolo DOCG Riserva Tortoniano 2019 (link), produced exclusively in exceptional vintages and available in a limited edition of 4,000 bottles. Presented as a preview at Wine Paris, the Barolo Tortoniano Riserva 2019 has already garnered critical acclaim for its complexity and finesse, and will make its official debut for the Italian market at Vinitaly 2025 (link). A benchmark in Michele Chiarlo’s portfolio for nearly thirty years, Barolo Tortoniano has become a true classic, featured on the wine lists of more than 70 countries worldwide. Only in rare vintages is a selection of the finest grapes reserved for the Riserva, as in the case of the exceptional 2019 harvest.

Match Play: Vieux Château Certan vs. Château Figeac

We met on the 2nd of September at the home of one of Switzerland’s most prolific Bordeaux collectors to see how these two Châteaux compare to each other. As always Jean-Marc Quarin (link) led through the evening. The wines were served blind in flights of four. What connected them were two distinct features: The high percentage of Cabernets (Sauvignon and Franc) in their vineyard and their location bordering Château Cheval Blanc where the soil consists of a good portion of gravel next to the more common clay and limestone soils of the right bank.

Jean-Marc Pillot Vertikalverkostung Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean 2005-2021

Nachname? Pillot. Vorname? Jean-Marc, Urenkel von Jean-Baptiste Pillot, der 1910 die Domaine Pillot gegründet hat. Beruf? Winzer in der vierten Generation, Winzer seit 1991. Gemeinde? Chassagne-Montrachet, von Anfang an. Ausbildung? Lycée Viticole von Beaune. Anklageschrift? Der beste Rotweinproduzent der Appellation zu sein, wobei die Weissen auch nicht zu vernachlässigen sind. Gegenstand der Anklage? Eine Vertikalverkostung der Jahrgänge 2005 bis 2021 des renommierten 1er Crus Clos Saint-Jean, das die Erzeugung der besten Rotweine der Gemeinde ermöglicht. Die Verkostung fand im Rahmen des 20. Gründungstags der Boutique-Weinhandlung VINSmotions (Link) statt, die von Alex Nussbaumer geführt wird.
