Poggio Antico Launches the Palio Edition Experience

Montalcino, March 2026 – Poggio Antico presents the Palio Edition Experience, an exclusive hospitality project created to celebrate the victory of the horse Anda e Bola—co-owned by Marcel van Poecke, owner of the estate—at the Palio di Siena on August 16, 2025, and to pay tribute to one of the most deeply rooted expressions of Tuscan identity.

More than a standard winery visit, this is an immersive half-day experience that leads into the heart of Siena’s traditions, offering a closer look at a land that runs, celebrates and shares its spirit.

An experience of wine, heritage and belonging

The Palio Edition Experience begins with an exclusive visit to Scuderia Milani, where the champion horse Anda e Bola is trained and cared for.  An intimate glimpse into the world around the horse, where its wellbeing and physical and mental balance remain central. It is an opportunity to observe up close the dynamics of a place defined by dedication, care, and team spirit.

The day continues with a lunch dedicated to Tuscan cuisine, featuring local specialties that showcase the region’s culinary culture in its most authentic and convivial form.

The experience concludes at Poggio Antico with a private tour of the estate and a guided tasting of six wines representing the estate’s production philosophy, selected to highlight the finest expressions of Montalcino’s terroir and the elegance of Sangiovese.

Poggio Antico: more than wine

With the Palio Edition Experience, Poggio Antico reaffirms a clear vision: wine is at the core of the estate, but  its full meaning lies in its connection to Tuscany —its cultural roots and traditions.

«Dedicating an experience to the victory of Anda e Bola is not merely celebratory, but rather an expression of identity. The Palio embodies discipline, respect, collective memory and local pride—values that naturally resonate with the philosophy of our estate and its ownership» – explains Pier Giuseppe D’Alessandro, General Manager – «It’s a tangible way to demonstrate that Poggio Antico is indeed about wine – but also about something more: an investment in the land, in its history, and in the culture of those who live here. In this project, Brunello becomes the ambassador of a broader context: a territory that is not only a vineyard landscape, but also living culture, shared tradition, and a sense of community»

The desire to celebrate last August’s Palio victory has also led to the releaae of a special edition of Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino 2021, featuring a commemorative label.

«The 2021 vintage is already remarkable in its own right: it was a year defined by balance and elegance, where Sangiovese expressed both power and finesse. This special edition captures its full essence, enriched by the spirit of a label created in tribute to the Palio di Siena, to Anda e Bola, and to a summer that will remain etched in our collective memory» concludes the General Manager.

On the highest hills of the Brunello appellation, between 500 and 620 meters of altitude, Poggio Antico is a 37-hectare estate south of Montalcino managed in the belief that a great wine is one reflecting the very best land can offer.

Guided by a commitment to finding a new path for future viticulture, and led by the expert agronomist Pippo D’Alessandro, Poggio Antico is developing a signature approach – the Poggio Antico Model – to estate management, aimed at ensuring the life of the vineyards far beyond their tenure.

Through research, experimentation, innovative techniques in the vineyard and the expertise and dedication of a long-standing team, the goal is to offer real solutions to the challenges of an ever-changing future.
