Piera 1899 celebrates Summer with the White Wines of Terre Magre

Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, and Traminer: The Essence of Friuli Grave Defined by Freshness and Minerality

San Quirino, Pordenone, May 26, 2026 – With the return of the warm season, Piera 1899 (link) celebrates summer through its Terre Magre line, a collection that encapsulates the essence of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Born in the beating heart of the Friuli Grave DOC, these wines tell the story of a unique oenological mosaic, where vibrant freshness and pronounced minerality become the ideal companions for convivial moments under the sun.

The secret behind Terre Magre lies in the Magredi: alluvial lands shaped by the pebble-strewn beds of ancient rivers, which create a striking and distinctive landscape. Here, the Grave — from the Latin gravis, meaning “heavy”— are limestone-dolomite pebbles polished smooth by water. By draining the soil and reflecting sunlight, they accumulate heat during the day and release it gradually throughout the night.

This ideal habitat is sheltered to the north by the mountains and cooled to the south by Adriatic breezes, fostering a diurnal temperature variation that concentrates incredibly pure aromas within the grapes. In this dialogue between stone and sky, the Terre Magre wines express distinct sapidity, elegance, and unmistakable mineral finesse. It is an encounter between the tradition of the Grave and a modern intuition, capable of transforming poor soils into white wines of great prestige, ideal for elevating every summer sip.

Piera 1899’s Selection for the Summer

  • Chardonnay Friuli DOC Terre Magre 2025 (link)

One of the world’s most beloved international varieties finds an expression of rare elegance and structure in the Grave. Produced from grapes harvested after an extended ripening period, the must ferments at a controlled temperature for about a month, before aging on the lees in stainless steel tanks with frequent bâtonnage for 6 to 7 months. The result is an intense straw-yellow wine with golden highlights. On the nose, fruity notes of apple, pear, and pineapple evolve into honey and dried fruit, while the palate is full and harmonious.

  • Pinot Grigio Friuli DOC Terre Magre 2025 (link)

A refined interpreter of the Friulian terroir, this Pinot Grigio stands out for its impeccable balance between freshness and complexity. The white winemaking process involves a soft pressing followed by a slow fermentation; the wine then rests on its fine lees until spring to develop a smoother structure. Bright straw-yellow in color, it offers an elegant bouquet of orange blossom, apple, and exotic fruits, delivering a fresh, sapid, and perfectly balanced palate.

  • Sauvignon Friuli DOC Terre Magre 2025 (link

A wine with a vibrant and aromatic personality, Sauvignon Terre Magre is a celebration of intensity and luminosity. To enhance its olfactory profile, the grapes undergo cold maceration for 24 hours prior to fermentation, followed by a six-month rest on the lees. Straw color with greenish highlights, it reveals classic notes of sage, tomato leaf, and bell pepper, which blend with hints of grapefruit and apricot, confirming an inviting, rich, and persistent character on the palate.

  • Traminer Aromatico Friuli DOC Terre Magre 2025 (link)

An enveloping, precious expression, Traminer Aromatico transforms the minerality of pebbly soils into a symphony of aromas. Production includes 24 hours of cold maceration and six months of aging on the fine lees to maximize aromatic complexity. Golden hues introduce an unmistakable nose of rose and tropical fruit, accompanied by hints of spice. In the mouth, it is creamy and persistent, with delicate, sweet final notes of honey.

Already available on the market, the white wines of the Terre Magre line are the ideal choice for those seeking a perfect balance between sapidity and timeless aromatic freshness.
