Consorzio Morellino di Scansano: territory, vision and comparison at the centre of Rosso Morellino 2025

Two days of meetings with the press, tastings and new projects to narrate the identity of Sangiovese from the coast, between past, present and future of the denomination.

Scansano, June 2025 – Morellino di Scansano (link) is an identity wine, a shared vision among producers and a quest for quality that make it increasingly appreciated both in Italy and abroad. This is what emerged at the new edition of Rosso Morellino (link), an event by the Morellino di Scansano Consortium (link) to connect the trade press, producers and institutional partners, with the aim of recounting the present of the denomination and sharing the future vision of one of Italy’s most authentic Sangiovese wines: the one that originates in a unique territory, along the coast of the Tuscan Maremma.

Rosso Morellino (link) is much more than a promotional event,’ says Bernardo Guicciardini Calamai, President of the Consortium, „it is an opportunity for listening and discussion, a living experience within the denomination to understand all the characteristics that are then found in our wines. In fact, Morellino di Scansano is the result of a vision among producers and a concrete commitment to the constant search for quality; it is a wine with structure and character, characterised at the same time by soft tannins and a savoury note that give it a surprising freshness. So sharing what we are today and what we are becoming consolidates our path of recognisability and allows us to work very well in the Italian markets and open up numerous international channels.“

Reinforcing this growth and awareness is the Assembly’s recent approval of the new term “Superiore”, which is currently being examined by the relevant authorities, in addition to the already existing “Annata” and “Riserva”. This is an important regulatory and symbolic step, which further reinforces the quality positioning of the denomination and is synonymous with ever greater selection, care and respect in the wine production of its members.

„In a world context that remains complex and constantly changing, our hope is to continue to grow with consistency and vision, faithful to our territorial matrix but able to speak a contemporary language. The strength of Morellino lies in this synthesis: to be respectful of tradition, profoundly identity-driven and, at the same time, able to dialogue with the world,“ concludes Bernardo Guicciardini Calamai.

InGravel: the wine territory is discovered in the saddle

The Morellino di Scansano Consortium is also embracing the world of cycling tourism (link) thanks to its renewed collaboration with InGravel (link), an event organised by Andrea Gurayev and Werner Peruzzo of Saturia Bike, which on 13 and 14 September 2025 will bring numerous gravel bike enthusiasts to the white roads of the Maremma. Cycling routes, vineyard tastings and stops in the villages will once again make the experience immersive and authentic, combining sport, landscape and wine culture.

‘With InGravel,’ comments Alessio Durazzi, director of the Consortium, „we are enhancing our territory with a new language, which is gaining a lot of positive consensus and gathering more and more enthusiasts. The Morellino di Scansano Consortium is the first in Italy to activate this collaboration with InGravel, and we are proud of it: it is a way to involve many people who may be discovering this territory for the first time while cycling through the vineyards, before falling in love with our wine“.

Morellino Carousel and ReWine: cocktails that tell of the modernity and versatility of Morellino

Mixology also becomes a storytelling tool for Morellino di Scansano, thanks to Morellino Carousel and ReWine (link), the cocktails created by bartender Julian Biondi (link). The former, inspired by Futurism and Prampolini’s ‘Giostra d’Alcool’, balances Morellino with bitter, red fruits and gazzosa in a fresh and harmonious mix, in which the wine remains the protagonist and around it is built a structure that touches on bitter, sparkling, citrus and fruity aspects, giving a final complexity. ReWine, based on Morellino Riserva, whiskey and Angostura, is an expression of the versatility of this wine even in its more refined versions.

Porsche, Repower, TeamSystem and the Park of the Maremma: partners of a sustainable and innovative Consortium

On the occasion of Rosso Morellino, the Consortium presented its partnership with five exceptional realities that espouse its green values, dedicated to sustainability and innovation. In addition to the now well-established collaboration with InGravel, Morellino has to its credit an activity with the Porsche Firenze team, strongly committed to sustainable mobility, Repower, active in solutions for sustainable mobility and energy efficiency, and TeamSystem, which has flanked the Consortium by laying the foundations for new projects in the digital and management fields. Alongside them is also the Maremma Park, along the Tyrrhenian coast: a protected area that preserves a precious mosaic of natural environments including pine forests, marshes, dunes and Mediterranean scrub, which plays a fundamental role in protecting the area’s biodiversity, hosting rare species of flora and fauna and promoting sustainable conservation and tourism practices.

Thanks to these synergies, the Consortium strengthens its communication and promotion strategy, narrating a Morellino di Scansano that looks to the future with roots firmly in the present and a history that continues to evolve.
