London, September 2025 – Liv-ex, the global exchange for fine wine market data and insight, has released the 2025 Classification, a league table that ranks the world’s leading wines based on trade prices.

The latest edition arrives amid the longest downturn in the fine wine market in recent history.

First introduced in 2009 with a focus on Bordeaux, the Liv-ex Classification has since evolved. The 2025 edition is the most diverse yet, featuring wines from 10 countries — the widest geographical spread since the scope expanded beyond Bordeaux in 2017.

A Modern Take on a Historic Benchmark

Inspired by the historic 1855 Classification from Bordeaux, Liv-ex applies modern criteria. To qualify, wines must not only meet a minimum price threshold but also demonstrate consistent trade activity on the exchange. A rare wine sold only once, even at a high price, is not enough to qualify.

France and Italy Lead the Way

France and Italy emerged as the clear winners of the 2025 Classification.

The top three positions were claimed by Romanée-Conti, La Tâche and Richebourg.

France continues to dominate, with Burgundy contributing more First growths than any other region. In total, 106 Bordeaux wines were recognised, accounting for nearly one-third of the 332 wines in the ranking.

Italy also showed impressive strength, with 86 wines represented, up from 65 in the 2023 ranking.

Biggest Movers

  • Vieux Télegraphe and Giacomo Conterno’s Barbera d’Alba Francia were the most notable risers, each climbing from fifth to third tier.
  • Only two wines moved from the second tier to the first tier:  Clos des Lambrays and Domaine Leflaive’s Puligny-Montrachet, Clavoillon.
