Moscato d’Asti DOCG “La Giostra” and Canelli DOCG “Casa di Bianca”: a parcel-focused approach rooted in elegance and freshness
Castagnole delle Lanze (AT), December 2025 – Located among the UNESCO-listed hills of Langhe and Monferrato, Gianni Doglia Winery (link) is a family-run estate where technical precision, environmental stewardship and deep respect for the land converge. At the helm is Gianni, supported by his sister Paola, carrying forward the work begun by previous generations – with a clear focus on precision viticulture and meticulous vinification of Moscato.
THE REALM OF MOSCATO
Moscato Bianco has always been the beating heart of Doglia’s production and the varietal that best embodies Gianni’s philosophy. His vision arises from the desire to restore dignity and complexity to Moscato, showing how a grape traditionally associated with dessert wines can instead speak of place with finesse and depth.
The estate cultivates approximately 9 hectares of Moscato vines on calcareous soils that enhance the grape’s aromatic finesse. Through the use of the Metodo Martinotti – a controlled fermentation in pressurized tanks – Gianni maximizes the variety’s natural expressiveness. The technique brings out Moscato’s hallmark freshness and natural sweetness while preserving its delicate aromatics.
The Doglia family has devoted generations to Moscato. With the new millennium, Gianni Doglia began an innovative parcel-based selection journey, redefining its style through a personal interpretation focused on elegance and freshness. The classic Moscato bears the symbol of this heritage – a carousel on the label, evoking childhood memories – while “Casa di Bianca”, a single-vineyard bottling from a particularly prized site, represents the pinnacle of the estate’s expression of terroir.
MOSCATO D’ASTI DOCG “LA GIOSTRA” (link)
Sourced from vineyards at approximately 350 meters in elevation, with clay-limestone soils, “La Giostra” represents the most traditional, immediate expression of Moscato.
The winemaking process includes gentle pressing, separation of the free-run must, and partial fermentation up to around 5% ABV in pressurized tanks at controlled temperature.
On the palate, it displays a straw-yellow color and aromas of white flowers and fruits, sage, and mint. The wine is lightly sparkling, sweet, and balanced, with well-integrated acidity contributing to overall harmony.
CANELLI DOCG “CASA DI BIANCA” (link)
Produced from a single vineyard over 60 years old located in the heart of the Canelli denomination, on sandy-clay soils, “Casa di Bianca” is made from a targeted selection of the ripest grapes.
Vinification follows the same gentle pressing and partial fermentation (to approx. 5% vol.) in temperature-controlled pressurized tanks, followed by six months of lees aging at low temperature, which provides greater complexity and texture.
On tasting, it shows a straw-yellow color with aromas of white flowers, citrus, sage, and mint. The palate is velvety, sweet, and well-balanced thanks to excellent acidity.
