A family-run winery rooted in Monferrato, cultivating Moscato, Barbera, and other native varieties with a focus on quality, technical precision, and environmental stewardship
Castagnole delle Lanze.
July 2025 – Located in Castagnole delle Lanze, between the UNESCO hills of Langhe and Monferrato, Azienda Vitivinicola Gianni Doglia (link) is known for producing expressive, site-driven wines that reflect deep respect for the land. The winery’s philosophy centers on championing local grape varieties through a commitment to quality and sustainability. The conscious choice to remain a small-scale, family-run business allows for hands-on attention at every stage, resulting in wines that speak clearly of Monferrato’s identity.
At the heart of the winery is Gianni, supported by his sister Paola. Together, they carry on the work started by previous generations, combining passion with a focus on precision viticulture and rigorous Moscato vinification. Barbera is the estate’s other cornerstone, expressed through a range of nuanced styles. The portfolio also includes wines from native varieties such as Grignolino, Ruchè, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Arneis, and Cortese.
The Three Guiding Values of Gianni Doglia’s Vision
The Gianni Doglia project is shaped by a clear, artisanal, and deeply rooted agronomic vision built around three fundamental values: desire, dialogue, and respect.
Desire, for Gianni, is a constant inner drive toward improvement – a push for excellence that informs every decision, from selecting the most suitable vineyard sites to the meticulous detail applied throughout the production process.
Dialogue is a daily practice – with family, collaborators, and the land itself. It is about listening, sharing, and exchanging ideas, forming the basis of an open and conscious approach.
Respect translates into consistent and tangible choices – a cross-cutting value that underpins all decisions, from vineyard and cellar work to the way people and the land are managed.
Agronomic and Winemaking Practices
This principle of respect is reflected in an agronomic approach that balances ecological harmony and technical precision: permanent natural ground cover, regenerative agriculture, no irrigation, low yields, manual interventions only, and adherence to the SQNPI certification system (Sistema di Qualità Nazionale Produzione Integrata).
In the cellar, traditional winemaking techniques are used, with a low and targeted use of sulfur dioxide to preserve the varietal integrity and identity of each appellation.
The Realm of Moscato and Barbera
Moscato is the winery’s signature variety, vinified in two expressions: Moscato d’Asti DOCG “La Giostra” and Canelli DOCG “Casa di Bianca” – the latter sourced from a single, 60-year-old vineyard. Both wines are produced using the Martinotti Method, with gentle pressing and controlled temperatures to preserve primary aromas, freshness, and natural residual sugar.
Barbera is interpreted through three distinctive expressions: Barbera d’Asti DOCG “Bosco Donne”, aged in stainless steel to preserve varietal purity; Barbera d’Asti DOCG Superiore “Genio”, aged in French oak; and Nizza DOCG “Viti Vecchie”, made from old vines in Nizza Monferrato and Agliano, aged in wood and ideal for long-term aging.
