Pinot Grigio DOC delle Venezie “SUPER STAR” at the 2018 Palmarès de la Grande Dégustation de Montréal

There are 3 Pinot Grigio DOC delle Venezie among the 5 Italian Pinot Grigio wines – all from the Triveneto area and Consorzio members – in the final of the famous Canadian competition dedicated to one the most renowned and esteemed grape varieties in the world. “A big surprise and an important acknowledgement for this Denomination” affirms Catherine Lessard, General Director of the AQAVBS which organizes the contest. President of the Consorzio, Albino Armani states that “this acknowledgement confirms the excellence of our wines and the markets’ growing interest in the “Italian Style Pinot Grigio

After the USA, the Consorzio DOC delle Venezie continues its institutional information campaign in Canada.
The Pinot Grigio DOC delle Venezie dominates the final “top ten” in the Palmarès Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio de La Grande Dégustation de Montréal, the internationally renowned Canadian contest organized by AQAVBS (Association Québécoise des Agences de Vins, Bières et Spiritueux) which every year overviews and celebrates a wine variety or wine of international interest. This year’s focus was on Pinot Grigio, or rather Pinot Gris – produced in France, USA, New Zealand, Argentina, Canada, Chile and also Italy – and Pinot Grigio, where Italy has prerogative, which is characterized by acidity and freshness. Of the ten finalists – selected from 109 wines from 10 Countries – five are Italian, all produced by Consorzio company members from the Triveneto area, and three are certified DOC delle Venezie.

  1. Astoria Alisia Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie 2017
  2. Piera Martellozzo P.M. Pinot Grigio Terre Magre DOC Friuli 2017
  3. Salvaterra Pinot Grigio Tenute Salvaterra DOC Delle Venezie 2017
  4. Masi Agricola Masianco Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie 2017
  5. Tenuta La Presa Pinot Grigio San Isidoro DOC Garda 2017

A “palmarès” that confirms the international recognition of the Italian Pinot Grigio–Delle Venezie connection and rewards the work done by the Consorzio in the realm of origin certification and quality control, leading it to being top in one of the most rigorous and highly-accredited competitions on an international level.

The classification was decided after blind-tasting was carried out by a panel of 28 professionals from the wine sector, presided over by the well-known author and wine critic, Michelle Bouffard who in an AQAVBS press release commented, “I am sure that consumers in Canada and all over the world will revisit with enthusiasm this category, which today has reached very a high quality”.

“Many Countries participated in the Palmarès della Grande Dégustation de Montréal Pinot Gris–Grigio and five of the winners from the Pinot Grigio category are from Italy, and amongst them three are DOC delle Venezie. This is a big surprise and an important acknowledgement for this Denomination! An enviable delegation of Pinot Grigio delle Venezie producers will take part in La Grande Dégustation de Montréal from 1st to 3rd November” states Catherine Lessard, AQAVBS General Director. Of the five finalists in the Pinot Grigio Category, the three best notes (position 1, 2 and 3) will enter the monopoly run by the Société des Alcools du Québec (SAQ) in 2019.

And it is in Canada that the Consorzio DOC delle Venezie continues its tour of institutional information, following events in the UK and USA, with two appointments organized with the ITA Italian Trade Agency. First in Toronto (29th October) and then in Montréal (31st October) with the “Grandi Degustazioni in Canada 2018” dedicated to trade, press and authorities and where Pinot Grigio delle Venezie will be the official wine and presented in the prestigious tasting guided by Walter Filiputti and Jacques Orhon, professor, sommelier and wine journalist.

From 1st – 3rd November the Consorzio will therefore be a main player in the Grande Dégustation de Montreal 2018, the event organized by AQAVBS that includes about 200 wine growers, distillers and brewers and during which the three winners of the Palmarès 2018 Pinot Grigio category will be declared. On 2nd November in particular, the “Italy and Pinot Grigio” theme will be explored during the seminar dedicated to companies from North East Italy and led by the renowned Canadian wine consultant Nick Hamilton.

“The acknowledgements received by our companies,” states Albino Armani, President of Consorzio DOC delle Venezie, “confirm the ‘delle Venezie’ area’s vocation for production and the excellence of a wine that by now international markets recognize as ‘Italian style.’ The Consorzio’s work done in the realm of quality certification and traceability is showing concrete results, also in terms of sensory quality. These results help us to reinforce the new perception that the consumer is starting to have of Pinot Grigio delle Venezie, guaranteed by the governmental seal”.
