Consorzio Tutela del Vino Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco becomes Supporter of the Institute of Masters of Wine

LONDON, UK, 11 AUGUST 2025 — The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) is proud to announce that Consorzio Tutela del Vino Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco (link) has become an official supporter.

Founded in 1962, the Consorzio is the custodian of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG designation. Uniting vine growers, winemakers and bottlers, it safeguards the quality and image of the appellation’s wines through extensive initiatives focused on protection, promotion and sustainability.

Beginning with a masterclass to be hosted at the IMW’s London headquarters this September, the Consorzio’s support for the Institute will provide new opportunities for Masters of Wine (MWs) and MW students to develop their knowledge of the wines, producers and practices within the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, a Unesco World Heritage Site (link).

Diego Tomasi, Director of the Consorzio said: “Supporting the educational mission of the IMW is extremely important to us. I appreciate, from my former years in academic research, how impactful it is to nurture knowledge understanding in the next generation of wine professionals. Our growers share this admiration for the commitment to excellence shown by the Institute’s members and students, and we are honoured to support it, while offering a deeper dive into our own wines, that come from a unique terroir.”

Sarah Harrison, interim executive director of the IMW, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Consorzio to our supporter network. Their commitment to quality, excellence and education align strongly with our values. We look forward to working together and strengthening the bonds between the IMW community and the Consorzio.”

President of the Consorzio Franco Adami added: “I would like to thank the IMW for welcoming us into its network. This partnership marks an exciting step in our ongoing commitment to education, excellence and global collaboration. We are proud to share the heritage and innovation of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG with such a respected community of wine professionals. We hope that through the international network of the Institute of Masters Wine, this knowledge can be shared all around the world.”

About the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW)

The IMW is a membership organisation with an exceptional international reputation. For more than 70 years, its members – the Masters of Wine (MWs) – have been at the forefront of leadership and expertise in the world of wine. The IMW’s mission is to foster excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community. MWs prove their comprehensive understanding of wine by passing the MW exam, recognised worldwide for its rigour and exacting standards. In addition to passing the exam, members must sign the code of conduct before they are entitled to use the initials MW. This requires them to uphold the highest standards of commercial conduct within the industry. Today, there are 419 Masters of Wine working in 28 countries. The membership encompasses winemakers, sommeliers, buyers, journalists, shippers, consultants, viticulturalists, academics, educators and more. There are 346 students from 43 countries in the 2024-25 MW study programme. The IMW works with 39 supporters and four research and industry associates, who help promote the IMW’s mission. The five principal supporters are Austrian Wine, AXA Millésimes, Champagne Bollinger, Constellation Brands and VSPT Wine Group.
