CECCHI unveils two new releases from Tuscan Maremma: “CAPRIFOGLIO” and “CALIPTE”

Cecchi showcases the winegrowing potential of the Maremma through an internationally styled Viognier and a Sangiovese rosé with a fine Tuscan identity.

Castellina in Chianti, April 16 2025 – Cecchi (link) continues its commitment to shining a spotlight on the Maremma, the area along Tuscany’s southern coast, with the launch of two new labels: Viognier “Caprifoglio” 2024 and Rosato “Calipte” 2024, made from Sangiovese grapes.  Two stylistic interpretations that, through a dialogue between native and international varieties, highlight the unique soil and climate conditions of this territory and its increasingly recognized winemaking potential, both in Italy and abroad.

Coevo 2021: A Timeless Icon Uniting the Best of Chianti Classico and Maremma

Set to debut in March 2025, this exclusive release consists of just 3,000 bottles, made from selected grapes: Sangiovese from the Ribaldoni vineyard (Chianti Classico, Villa Rosa Estate) and Merlot from Poggio La Mozza (Maremma, Val delle Rose Estate)

Castellina in Chianti, 10 February 2025 – Coevo (link), the iconic wine of the Cecchi Family (link), opens an exciting new chapter with the 2021 vintage. This limited edition, comprising approximately 3,000 bottles, including approximately 600 large formats, embodies a modern interpretation of Tuscany’s winemaking heritage—a legacy that dates back to 1893, when Luigi Cecchi founded the family estate in Castellina in Chianti. Eighteen years after its first release, Coevo refines its blend while remaining true to its origins, preserving a profound connection to two key regions for the Cecchi Family: Chianti Classico and Maremma.

Tenuta Monteti – “We don’t like the excess of roundness”

I sometimes find myself struggling with the ripeness and the lack of acidity in some of the wines of the Tuscan coast. Although technically well made, their warmth, elevated alcohol content, low acidity, and use of ‚international‘ grapes such as Bordeaux blends can sometimes make them seem interchangeable. Additionally, global warming hasn’t been favorable for these wines. Usually, I am more drawn towards wines that show a sense of place, a vision and have a soul and freshness. Tenuta Monteti (Link) is a great example of a winery that embodies all these virtues, while avoiding stepping into the trap of being over-complicated or too intellectual.
