Sicily’s 2026 harvest begins: a journey lasting nearly one hundred days

Palermo, July 29, 2026 – The 2026 grape harvest begins in western Sicily with the picking of the earliest white grape varieties. Over the course of nearly one hundred days, from the end of July onwards, the harvest will unfold across the island—from western Sicily to the inland areas, from the hyblaean plateau to the slopes of Mount Etna and the smaller islands—telling the story of the diversity of landscapes, grape varieties and expertise that make Sicily a true wine-growing continent.

Wine tourism in Sicily is on the rise: By 2025, 61.4% of wineries had registered an increase in visitor numbers. Sustainability is also a key strength: 86.7% of wineries generate energy from renewable sources.

Alessio Planeta zum neuen Präsidenten gewählt

Der Verwaltungsrat hat Alessio Planeta zum neuen Präsidenten ernannt und damit einen wichtigen Schritt auf dem Wachstumskurs des Konsortiums gesetzt.

Nur wenige Tage nach der Mitgliederversammlung hat der Verwaltungsrat des Consorzio di Tutela Vini DOC Sicilia (Link) Alessio Planeta zum Präsidenten des Konsortiums gewählt. Die Entscheidung wurde heute, Freitag, den 10. April 2026, während der ersten Sitzung des neuen Verwaltungsrats getroffen.

Es ging zum einen um die Nachhaltigkeit im sizilianischen Weinbau, zum anderen um das Kennenlernen der autochthonen Rebsorten der grössten Insel in der Badewanne Mittelmeer.

The event will take place in Paris from February 9th to 11th within the IRVO regional collective

Palermo, January 27th, 2026 – At Wine Paris 2026 (link), 32 wine companies part of Assovini Sicilia (link) will participate as part of the regional collective organized by IRVO -Regional Institute of Wine and Oil- (link). This participation confirms the association’s annual presence at one of the most significant international events in the wine world. The exhibition will be held in Paris from February 9th to 11th at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.
