Brunello by Poggio Antico: the 2021 Vintage Opens a New Commercial Chapter

New vintages of the estate’s signature wines Brunello and Vigna i Poggi were presented at Benvenuto Brunello

Montalcino, December 2025 – During the 2025 Preview organized by the Consorzio (link)

, Poggio Antico (link) – the only winery in the denomination with its entire vineyard area located above 550 meters a.s.l. – officially unveiled the new vintages of its two most emblematic wines: Brunello 2021 and Vigna i Poggi 2021.

Two complementary interpretations of Sangiovese, born from the same terroir yet marked by distinct identities, conveying the truest essence of the southwestern plateau of Montalcino.

Set to debut on international markets in early 2026, these wines represent a decisive step in the estate’s stylistic and strategic evolution: continuity of vision, expressive precision, and a renewed connection with those who drink and distribute Brunello around the world.

The 2021 Vintage: Balance and the Identity of Altitude

The 2021 growing season was shaped by harmonious climatic conditions that favored a slow, even and complete ripening. A classic winter and a dry spring were followed by a warm yet never extreme summer, moderated by the pronounced diurnal shifts typical of Poggio Antico’s elevation.

«The unusually cold winter and spring led to slower budbreak. Generous spring rains helped the vines regain balance between the vegetative and productive phases, a key requirement for optimal phenolic development and perfect ripeness – explains General Manager Pier Giuseppe D’AlessandroThe 2021 vintage is beautifully set on the balance between immediacy and depth. Our role is to maintain our style without chasing trends, reinforcing our identity instead».

A New Commercial Path

For Poggio Antico, the 2021 vintage arrives at a time of strong strategic momentum: following its withdrawal from the Place de Bordeaux in 2024, the estate has embraced a direct, more focused distribution model, closer to its markets.

As Sales & Marketing Director Riccardo Bogi explains: «A year ago, Poggio Antico chose to leave the Place de Bordeaux and return to a direct distribution model. That decision now allows us to bring this new vintage to market with greater awareness: we know our partners better, their needs, and the real consumption dynamics during a challenging time for the wine world».

Brunello di Montalcino is the heart of Poggio Antico’s production, crafted from the harmonious blend of several parcels, each with distinctive features.

Poggio Antico’s Brunello is more than a wine—it is a synthesis: a balance of altitude, exposure, soil composition, and production vision, marked by solidity, depth, and integrity.

«Brunello 2021 has the structural solidity expected from the estate’s most representative wine» – notes Bogi – « It will be our main tool for consolidation in 2026, particularly in countries where we are rebuilding a stronger presence following the shift in distribution model».

Vigna i Poggi 2021 (link): The Voice of the Cru

« Vigna i Poggi is the result of a land we know, observe and respect every day; it is the result of the sum of all the pieces of our work, which demands patience and courage for a project in which we place our full trust » – says Pier Giuseppe D’Alessandro.

With the 2021 vintage, Vigna i Poggi enters its third release and confirms its role as the pinnacle of Poggio Antico’s expression. A wine that reflects the precise identity of its site, offering a defined and vertical profile, driven by elegance rather than power. It is a Brunello that emphasizes aromatic definition and depth, where each harvest communicates the vineyard’s unique character with absolute clarity.

From a market perspective, Bogi adds: « Vigna i Poggi 2021 shows a more immediate aromatic definition than previous vintages. For high-end markets—UK, Japan, Switzerland and North America—it will serve as a key reference for our positioning. The 2021 vintage is not just a new release; it is the vintage that opens a new commercial cycle. It is a Brunello that speaks clearly».
