Set to debut in March 2025, this exclusive release consists of just 3,000 bottles, made from selected grapes: Sangiovese from the Ribaldoni vineyard (Chianti Classico, Villa Rosa Estate) and Merlot from Poggio La Mozza (Maremma, Val delle Rose Estate)
Castellina in Chianti, 10 February 2025 – Coevo (link), the iconic wine of the Cecchi Family (link), opens an exciting new chapter with the 2021 vintage. This limited edition, comprising approximately 3,000 bottles, including approximately 600 large formats, embodies a modern interpretation of Tuscany’s winemaking heritage—a legacy that dates back to 1893, when Luigi Cecchi founded the family estate in Castellina in Chianti. Eighteen years after its first release, Coevo refines its blend while remaining true to its origins, preserving a profound connection to two key regions for the Cecchi Family: Chianti Classico and Maremma.
First introduced in 2006 as a tribute to Luigi Cecchi, the visionary third-generation leader who spearheaded the company’s expansion, Coevo was originally created to express the richness of Tuscany’s terroirs, blending varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. With the 2021 vintage, Coevo embraces a more defined vision, blending Sangiovese from the Ribaldoni vineyard at Villa Rosa in Castellina in Chianti and Merlot from Poggio La Mozza, part of the Val delle Rose Estate in Maremma.
“This wine represents, in a sense, a turning point in my winemaking journey. – says Andrea Cecchi– It inspired me to approach both the vineyard and the craft of winemaking with renewed dedication and a clear focus on expressing each vintage to its fullest potential. It’s thanks to Coevo that I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the path we need to take for our winery.”
Coevo is no ordinary wine. Created to capture the spirit of these lands, it unites two outstanding production areas in perfect harmony. The result is a balanced wine exuding finesse, depth and intensity, born from two prestigious crus that hold deep significance for the Cecchi Family.
“Coevo brings together two distinct identities: the ancient, complex soils of Chianti Classico, home of Sangiovese, and the delicate microclimate of the Maremma, strongly influenced by the sea, which is ideal for Merlot. The goal is to create a wine that speaks to the present while carrying stories that transcend time, opening the door to new enological horizons.” – says Miria Bracali, Winemaker for the Cecchi Family.
The name Coevo itself evokes a sense of timelessness and continuity, bridging past and future. It is a wine that honors its heritage while embracing the potential to evolve, carrying forward the story of the estate and its deep Tuscan roots.
2021 Vintage
The 2021 vintage (link) benefited from exceptionally favorable conditions, allowing for a gradual and harmonious ripening of the grapes. A mild, rainy winter built up excellent water reserves, while a cool spring ensured smooth flowering and fruit set. A dry summer, followed by late August rains, brought the grapes to perfect ripeness, with harvesting carried out under the clear, sunny skies of September and October.
“Coevo 2021 reflects a season that seemed to flow the deliberate, unhurried rhythm of the past—a vintage we can confidently count among the finest in recent memory.” – adds winemaker Miria Bracali.
Vinification
After careful manual harvest, the grapes underwent a double selection process followed by gentle pressing. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration took place in stainless steel tanks, followed by 18 months of aging in French oak tonneaux and an additional 10 months of refinement in the bottle.
Distribution
Coevo 2021 will be available in key markets, including Italy, the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Japan, reaching renowned establishments around the world.
Luca Stortolani, Italy Sales Director for the Cecchi Family, shares: “Coevo is our signature wine and a true representation of what we stand for, created for those who value wines with remarkable depth and character. Since its first vintage in 2006, Coevo has built a strong connection with the world of fine dining, where it is recognized as a showcase of the excellence we bring together from Chianti Classico and Maremma. Due to its limited production, we carefully allocate bottles by country—a testament to the excitement and respect this wine continues to inspire.”
