DECANTER rewards BORTOLOMIOL and its history

Our Rive 70th Anniversary Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG has won a Gold Medal in the international competition that is a benchmark for the English-speaking world.

According to the jury of the Decanter World Wine Awards, a Prosecco Superiore is one of the best wines in the world. This year, no less than 16,518 wines from wineries from around the globe took part in the international competition. «We are proud because, on its first appearance on the market, our Rive 70th Anniversary Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG 2017 has received the highest accolade, a Gold Medal» says Elvira Bortolomiol. «We created this wine to commemorate the first seventy years of our company and the pioneering work of our father Giuliano, but also as a celebration of our extraordinary hills, which were recognised last year as a UNESCO World Heritage Site».

The 70th Anniversary Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG is a  2017 Rive wine: in other words, a Prosecco Superiore made from the grapes of a single vineyard at Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene, lying high up in the hills in an area where cultivation is particularly difficult. Here all the vineyard operations have to be carried out strictly by hand, and there is an indissoluble link between the vines and the work of man. This wine also combines terroir and history: it is in fact produced in a Brut Nature version in honour of our founder Giuliano, who was the first, in the 1940s, to realise that this style with very low residual sugar highlighted the terroir, at a time when the dominant trend was just the opposite. Lastly, the decision to launch the wine with a product from the 2017 vintage was a challenge that the Bortolomiol family won, because it allowed them to achieve a degree of complexity that is unusual for this wine.

Produced in a limited edition, the Rive 70th Anniversary Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG displays fine, elegant floral notes on the nose that recall jasmine and black locust blossom, along with fruity hints of green apples. Produced by an extended version of the Charmat method, it is the quintessential Rive wine.
